The SOSORO Museum Unveils Expanded Exhibition Halls on Independence, Khmer Republic and Pol Pot regime

Phnom Penh, Cambodia – The National Bank of Cambodia’s Preah Srey Içanavarman Museum of Economy and Money (SOSORO) announces the inauguration, on Saturday 24 February at 9:00 AM, of three extensively renovated halls within its permanent exhibition. These halls, dedicated to pivotal epochs in Cambodian history - the Independence, the Khmer Republic, and the Pol Pot regime - have undergone significant enhancements to enrich visitor experience and deepen historical understanding.

The SOSORO Museum has meticulously upgraded the exhibition in order to allocate more space to the Independence era, and to the achievements in nation building of His Majesty King Father NORODOM Sihanouk, particularly in securing Independence, establishing the National Bank of Cambodia, and introducing the national currency, the riel.

Scenography as well as flow of visitors have also been improved - with more photographs about the Khmer Republic, and more information on the Pol Pot regime - ensuring that each hall not only narrates these crucial periods but does so with an immersive, educational approach that leverages modern display technologies. Overall, these renovations aim to provide a more engaging and insightful journey through Cambodia's complex and resilient history.

The SOSORO Museum is honored to announce that the inauguration will be graced by the presence of esteemed figures: His Royal Highness Samdech Krom Preah NORODOM Chakrapong, Privy Counselor to His Majesty the King, His Excellency Dr. CHEA Chanto, Honorary Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, and Her Excellency Dr. CHEA Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia. Members of the Cambodian government, ambassadors, diplomats, and esteemed guests from the educational, cultural, and banking sectors was also in attendance.

The SOSORO Museum is committed to preserving and disseminating Cambodia’s rich history. These renovated halls represent a significant stride towards pursuing this mission, offering both national and international visitors a profound glimpse into the nation's past, its challenges, and its triumphs.

The National Bank of Cambodia’s SOSORO Museum extends a cordial invitation to the media to join the inauguration on this momentous occasion, an opportunity to witness the fusion of Cambodia's historical legacy with modern educational techniques, set within the heart of Phnom Penh.
